Is there a clever parent who wants to design the t-shirt for this event OR should we let the students and/or BMS alumni at Bearden or West submit art for the shirt? It needs to be a single color design that works with the theme. In the past, students wore the shirts to school the day after the party. Some students like to have their shirt signed by classmates.
The only t-shirt print shop that I personally know of is Riehl Printing (website pending). If you know of others, please let me know and I will get quotes.

It looks like the theme suggestions are:
Unless anyone has another suggestion, I’m going to create a poll with these ideas.

I have a handful of Google Wave invites left if anyone wants them. We could have a BMS wave.

Where should the party be held? It needs to be someplace that is large enough for all of the students and teachers. It should allow refreshments and decorations on the property. It needs to be a place where everyone feels comfortable and student safety can be guaranteed. It can’t be expensive. Ideas?

Just for fun, here’s a place to suggest all your favorite dancing songs. New is nice, but old works just as well. If you want to suggest something useful, name your favorite local DJ. Not a radio DJ, but someone who could possibly be the DJ at the BMS dance.

Every dance needs a “theme”. The theme shows up in the decorations and more importantly, on the t-shirt that everyone gets as a memento of the occasion. Past themes have been things like: “You oughta be in pictures” and “Hollywood Nights”. Let’s brainstorm possible themes. It sounds as though Hollywood has been a well-covered theme and it might be time for something new. On the other hand, if the students want a glittery vampire theme, it IS their event. I originally thought about a sunglasses theme, as in “My future’s so bright I gotta wear shades.” However, that is an extremely dated song. I wonder if a steampunk theme might be more current and interesting. Something along the line of “I’m making my own future.” Your ideas?

The last day of the of the 2009 – 2010 school year will be Friday, May 21st. Because it is important that the dance be as minimally disruptive to the school day as possible, I am sending an e-mail to the eighth grade teachers asking them to choose the date of the dance. As soon as they decide on the date, I will post it on this site.

Welcome to the 8th grade! It is a BMS/PTO tradition to celebrate the end of 8th grade with a dance. It will be YOUR dance. How do you imagine your dance? Where is it going to be? A restaurant? A country club? Knoxville has a little bit of everything, so let’s pick the perfect spot together.
Remember that this celebration is for ALL graduating 8th graders, their teachers and the school administrators. Let’s pick a place that everyone can enjoy. In the past, the 8th grade dance has been held at places like Calhouns on the river and Gettysvue Country Club.
